Summary :

Trepanation is the procedure of drilling a hole in the skull. It is said to increase the blood circulation and improve pressure inside the skull. It is also said to bring out a person's sixth sense, the ability to use ESP, see ghosts, move objects with one's mind. This is speculative fiction based on the concept of trepanation.

A social drop-out, living in his car, 'playing' at being homeless, is offered money to submit to a hole being drilled in his skull. A medical student plans to study the conferral of paranormal abilities by this trepanning process; but after the operation the subject becomes lost in disturbing visions, and fears for his sanity. A thoughtful manga, without the extreme violence of the writer's other main work, Ichi the Killer.
