Summary :
In a world of spirits, there are shamans. Shamans who connect people with the world of spirits. They help guide people and give advice. Manta Oyamada is one of those people who can see spirits. One night, he meets Yoh Asakura, a lazy-lacking shaman. They gradually become best friends and Manta finds out about Yoh's past and why he's in Tokyo. As Yoh and his spirit partner Amidamaru confront spirits, they also meet many enemies like Ren. As he meets those enemies, Yoh tries to achieve his goal of becoming the Shaman King.

Shaman King was re-released in volume form as Shaman King Kang Zeng Bang. This release was made up of 27 volumes which reprinted all of the original chapters. In addition it included several new chapters that were never before printed in either magazine or volume form. Two new chapters inserted between the original 264 and 265 show a fight that was only mentioned in the original release. The remaining new chapters (287-300) comprise the canonical ending to the series. The original chapter 285 ending should be thought of as an alternate universe side story.
