Summary :
Popular high school student Suwa Daisuke has no interest in dating newcomer Aikawa Hinako, a quiet loner. Since she recoiled from his flirtatious touch, he took it as a personal affront. However, Daisuke's attitude changes after he accidentally hears her confession in an abandoned church; she's been sexually abused by her stepfather and has given up a child for adoption. His former annoyance turns to compassion and concern, while Hinako is unaware that he knows her terrible secret. Believing him to have no romantic interest in her, she becomes more relaxed and comfortable in his company. Their relationship faces a lot of obstacles, including jealous classmates.
[Kiuzah sep.08] Bitter Virgin is one of those stories that show how complex casual life can be, and how cruel reality can become. The artist touches on extremely delicate taboos, such as rape, abuse, deep traumas and death, but in such a compassionate way that, instead of horrified , the reader is moved to tears - especially if he/she has already experienced one of these traumas himself/herself or in his/her close family. Reading this piece of fine art is, indeed, more than just an enjoyable experience, but also somewhat of a therapy.
And, to those sad about the short duration of the series, be of good cheer - the beautiful ending, in fact, is just the beginning, I assure you all...
