DL1 Hardware Failure

Posted by Yukimura on 04/07/2011 11:41 pm

UPDATE 3
Server dl1 is back online and fully restored.

UPDATE 2
The file restoration process has begun and should be done in about a day or so.

UPDATE
The server has been repaired and set up is complete progressing, we should be starting the file transfer  sometime tomorrow and it should take about a day or so to complete.

It looks like the hard drive in download server 1 has died and will have to be replaced.  We have backups of all the files but it'll take a few days at least to get the new OS configured and all the files transferred over.  We'll update as more information becomes available.

Guidelines for Manga of the Week Suggestions

Posted by KaKaR on 03/18/2011 1:58 pm

It always disheartened me how many people don't care to read the complete MOTW post, in which I clearly state  where to send MOTW suggestions (It's written in bold and italics so it stands out).  Despite my efforts I often find suggestions lying around in different places on the forums or in the inboxes of other staff members.  Let's try it one more time in a bit more detail and hopefully you all will pay attention to it since there are no series for you to skip to in this post.  If you would like to see your favorite series featured as Manga of the Week then PM me (KaKaR) your suggestions through the forum PM system.  I have included some guidelines at the bottom of the post for you.  Suggestions will remain open until I say otherwise in a post.

Note: I am aware that there are good one-volume manga out there and I want to eventually incorporate them into MOTW at some point, but not right now.  If enough people prefer that they should be featured then I might change my mind.  You can post your thoughts about one-volume series in this thread.

How to properly suggest a series for MotW:

  • Put 'Manga of the Week Suggestion' as the pm subject.
  • Suggested series can be from any genre or series type that we host on MT.
  • Multi volume series suggested must have at least 2 volumes scanslated.
  • Please try to include completed and fully scanlated series in your suggestions also.
  • You can send more than one suggestion in a pm, if you do please list them in order of your preference so I know which one you want to see featured the most.
  • Try to check Archived Manga of the Week thread and board to make sure what you are suggesting hasn't already been featured before.
  • A brief explanation of why you think the series deserves to be featured will go a long way towards making your suggestion stand out.  Try to keep it around 250ish words though.

POLL: What information matters most to you when browsing for series?

Posted by Yukimura on 01/13/2011 4:47 pm

As you all are hopefully aware the go to method for browsing for new series on Mangatraders is the Extended Series List page.  In an effort to get feedback from the community I have established this poll to determine if any information should be added or removed to make the page better for its intended purpose to the community at large.

Please keep in mind that while the extended series list is meant to be a convenience we have no intention of making visiting series pages obsolete.  The point of the extended series list is to give a quick peek at a series to help you determine if you're interested in learning more about it.  It is not meant to enable you to make up your mind to pick up a new series immediately.

From the options in this poll please select 5 (Or less, please remember, don't go out of your way to pick 5 if you only strongly care about 3.  Over voting could help make the 2 you didn't care about as much seem more important than the 3 you really did.) the options you would most care about when browsing through series trying to decide what looks good.  Also If you have any comments about the browsing system overall please feel free to share them in the thread.

Title: Changes To Series Pages
Original Post: Dec 23, 2010, 05:16:17 pm
As some of you may have noticed the layout of the information on series pages changed recently.  This change is part of a move to make things more clear and concise.  We have also implemented a new interface for indicating the 'status' of series.  Instead of one catchall text box the scanslation status and the status in the country of origin now have separate drop-down boxes with predefined values.  Descriptions for what each value means can be found on the series edit page.  Most series will fall into one of the categories offered for both scan and home status; for those that don't there is still a text box available which can be used to indicate further details.  This extra information will only show up on a series page if there is something put in that box so some series will have an extra field on the right of their image which will be absent on others.  In the coming weeks we'll probably add filtering by scanslation status to the Extended Series List.

Another addition to the series pages are links to the related forum topic for the series on the Manga Series  board on the forums.  The series edit system will only accept topics that are in that section of the forums though and once a topic is set for a series only a staff member can change it so please be careful when assigning this field.

Finally, there has been some strife going back and forth behind the scenes between certain members of certain groups and certain members of the MT community.  Mangatraders is neutral in all of these disputes but we will not stand idly by while our users are harassed on our site for following our rules.  To that end we have implemented an anonymous upload feature.  If you submit an upload with the text [color=red">!ANON anywhere in the "Comments to Staff" box the upload will not be associated with your Mangatraders account.  You will not be credited with another upload and your name/profile link will not appear beside the file if it is put on the site.  Anyone may use this service for any reason however the staff will be able to tell who made the upload and we will continue to enforce our uploading rules as they are stated on the uploading page.

MT FAQ Integrated Into Main Site

Posted by Yukimura on 09/09/2010 11:52 am

The Mangatraders FAQ has (finally) been integrated into the main site.  It can be viewed at http://www.mangatraders.com/faq.  Previously the FAQ was housed in a disorganized forum thread which relatively few people seem to have consulted.  The new FAQ format should be much simpler to use and thus learn from so maybe some of the questions I am constantly being asked will stop coming in so frequently...

I invite everyone to look over the FAQ for all the knowledge it contains about how the site's features work.  Additionally, any feedback on what information seems to be missing or inaccurate would be appreciated, provided it comes from people who have used the site long enough to know the what they're talking about.  Some of the answers in the FAQ have not been updated in years and the site and has evolved considerably since then.  If you see something that seems completely wrong or you think of something that seems to be missing post it in this thread.  Don't PM them to me or I will find you and poke your eyes out in your sleep.  PMing to other (Website) staff members is fine with me but I can't speak to their readiness to do any eye poking.
